    Cards, tiles and a better Users screen

    New

    • Manage › Users opens with a strip of server totals (people, admins, bridge accounts, rooms, media). Each person gets a card with their rooms, sessions, uploads, email and last seen.
    • Bridge and bot accounts are grouped by bridge, out of the way of real people. Press enter on a group to show or hide it.
    • Users can be searched (/), filtered (f) and sorted (o).
    • "Sign out everywhere" (s) ends every session of a user. On MAS servers it goes through mas-cli.
    • The compact menu is a grid of tiles with an icon each, and it scrolls with the arrows or a swipe.
    • A preset shows what it installs as bullets grouped by kind (core, apps, login, bridges…) instead of a long line.
    • Manage groups its actions under headings, with an icon per action and its key on the right. The action under the cursor sits in a card with its description.
    • Components, Review and Welcome use the same cards: the picked item is boxed, tags are chips, and the review's status is a coloured banner.

    Changed

    • The README screenshots are retaken.

    Comfortable on a phone

    New

    • The compact layout (Termux, narrow terminals) has a one-line header and a bar of buttons along the bottom: ‹ back, ≡ menu, the screen's main action and ⋯. The bar replaces the key hints.
    • ⋯ lists every other key of the screen, plus save, layout, theme and quit, as rows to tap, so nothing needs ctrl or esc on a touch keyboard.
    • When the screen is short (under 26 rows, as with the on-screen keyboard up), descriptions shrink to one line and lists lose their blank lines. Forms show the field you're typing in and a one-line summary of each of the others.

    Fixed

    • On short screens the Homeserver step scrolls to keep the selected preset or homeserver in view instead of cutting the cards off.

    The wide layout is unchanged. Update with interzone self-update or Manage › Update interzone.

    Built on GitHub Actions

    New

    • interzone is mirrored to GitHub, where every push runs the format check, go vet and the tests. Tagged versions are built there too: the amd64 and arm64 binaries and SHA256SUMS are attached to the GitHub release.

    Nothing changes in the program itself since v0.5.11. Update with interzone self-update or Manage › Update interzone.

    Importing again updates the server

    Fixes

    • Running interzone import (or Servers › i) on a server that's already saved no longer adds it a second time. It updates the saved server instead:

      • its answers come from the new vars.yml;
      • its playbook copy, download sources, backup schedule and admin session stay as they were;
      • the previous answers are kept as <server>.json.before-import.

      The import screen and -dry-run say which server will be updated. -new still adds it as a separate server, and -name refuses to overwrite a server that belongs to another domain.

    Mirrors, a new dashboard and themes

    New

    • Mirrors has its own section in the menu, next to Setup, Manage and Servers (m on Welcome opens it). It checks that everything a deploy downloads is there:

      • the playbook, and every role in requirements.yml at the version it pins, on your roles mirror;
      • the registry and package mirrors you use, plus every known mirror;
      • every container image the enabled services need, for the server's CPU type (once it's installed).
    • Dashboard, redesigned:

      • tiles for CPU, memory, disk and containers;
      • the OS, kernel, Docker version and uptime;
      • swap, the containers using the most memory and CPU, and certificate expiry dates and issuers;
      • each container's health check, restart count and network traffic.

      Cards sit side by side in a wide terminal and stack in the compact layout. interzone status shows the new system details too.

    • Themes: interzone, Catppuccin, Nord, Gruvbox, Dracula, Solarized and mono, each in a light and a dark version. ctrl+y switches and remembers them; -theme NAME picks one for a single run.

    • ctrl+l cycles the layout (auto, compact, wide).

    Changes

    • New Synapse servers, and the Synapse presets, come with the Matrix Authentication Service. Untick it on Components to keep Synapse's own logins. Servers that are already installed are left as they are.
    • Each menu section now opens and closes on its own: opening Setup no longer closes Manage. interzone remembers which sections are open.
    • Review, the DNS check and the Dashboard name the service in front of each hostname.

    Your hostnames, exactly

    Fixes

    • The Dashboard's certificates are checked for the hostnames your server actually serves, read from the Traefik rules of the running Matrix containers. Components hosted on other domains than the main one are now listed where they are.
    • The DNS records on Review, the DNS check and the instructions for moving to another server use each component's hostname from your vars.yml (or the playbook's default for it) instead of guessing <component>.<your domain>.

    User admin with MAS

    Fix

    • On servers with the Matrix Authentication Service, Manage › Users failed to sign in with "the admin login was refused: Unrecognized request", because MAS turns Synapse's own password login off.
    • With MAS, signing in now needs only the admin's username: interzone gets an admin session from mas-cli on the server. Admin rights shown are the ones MAS grants.
    • New users, password resets (devices are signed out), admin on/off, deactivating and reactivating all go through mas-cli in the MAS container. Reactivating keeps the user's old password. Calls that carry a password are kept out of Ansible's logs.

    Presets

    Start from a stack

    • The Homeserver step now offers presets: Minimal chat (Synapse, Element), Friends & family (adds Element Call, Ketesa and nightly database dumps), Bridge hub (Telegram, WhatsApp, Signal and Discord with double puppeting and encryption), Public community (MAS sign-up, Element and Cinny, Draupnir, antispam, monitoring) and Lightweight (Tuwunel and Cinny).
    • Picking one sets the homeserver and ticks exactly its components; settings you already typed in are kept. If you'd picked components by hand, it asks before replacing them. Picking only a homeserver works as before.

    Your own presets

    • s on the Homeserver step or p on Components saves the current homeserver and components as a preset (never settings or secrets). Saving under an existing name changes that preset, including the built-in ones; d deletes yours or puts a built-in one back.
    • They're kept in ~/.config/interzone/presets.json, shared by all your servers.

    Fixes

    • The key bar no longer shows esc twice on some screens.

    Take over a server you set up yourself

    Import

    • Installed matrix-docker-ansible-deploy by hand? Press i on Welcome or the Servers screen, or run interzone import PATH, to manage it with interzone. PATH is the playbook folder, its inventory folder or the server's vars.yml.
    • Every setting and secret is kept. Variables interzone has no question for are carried over as you wrote them, comments included; ones interzone would add are held at the playbook's defaults, so nothing gets switched on behind your back.
    • Your files are only read: interzone works on a copy of the playbook. The first Review compares the new vars.yml with your original, variable by variable.
    • interzone import -dry-run PATH shows what would be imported without saving anything.

    Fix

    • The Review diff against the last deploy (new in v0.5.5) showed secrets in plain text; they are masked now.

    Faster to read, quicker to act

    Live logs

    • View logs follows the service's journal as it's written, until esc. Scroll up to pause; end follows again.

    Last results right away

    • Dashboard, Users and the logs' service list open with what they showed last time and refresh in the background.

    Shortcuts on Manage

    • Every action has a letter: u update, c check, r restart, d dashboard, l logs, b back up, m users and more. Actions that change the server right away want the letter twice.

    What will change

    • Review shows how vars.yml differs from the last successful deploy; x switches to the whole file.

    Health in the header

    • Once a server is installed, the header shows whether matrix.<domain> answers over HTTPS from this computer and how many days its certificate has left, checked every minute. INTERZONE_HEALTH=off turns it off.
