Stablereleased this
2026-10-27 19:50:56 +03:30 | 116 commits to main since this releaseRenamed playbook settings are fixed for you
Fixed
- Deploys no longer stop on renamed settings. When the playbook renames a variable (e.g.
matrix_livekit_jwt_service_container_additional_arguments→matrix_livekit_jwt_service_container_extra_arguments), interzone moves your value to the new name: in extra vars, Fine-tune and component settings. It does this when it loads your config and again after each playbook update; the deploy log lists each rename. If both names are set, the new one wins.

2026-10-27 17:01:02 +03:30 | 118 commits to main since this releaseSettings gets its own step and an Advanced half
Changed
- Settings is its own step. "Fill in the details" is now a step between Components and Review, shown in the sidebar. Esc goes back to Components.
- Advanced beside the details. Settings is split in two: the details on the left, Advanced (your hand-written vars.yml lines) on the right. Tab runs off one side onto the other. Narrow screens show one side at a time, with tabs.
- Extra vars sorted by playbook role. Advanced puts each variable in a box for the playbook role that defines it: Synapse, Traefik, Docker, LiveKit, Element Web and so on. A box appears only for roles that already have vars, plus Other for new ones. Nothing in vars.yml changes except the order of these lines.
- Plain text. The "show as plain text" button, or ctrl+o, shows all of them in one box filling the right half, and switches back.
Fixed
- Scrolling past the last box no longer jumps to Review. Pressing ↓ or turning the mouse wheel at the bottom of the extra vars box moved on to the next step. The wheel now scrolls through the boxes too.

Stablereleased this
2026-10-27 16:25:38 +03:30 | 122 commits to main since this releaseChoose each component's address
New
- Addresses. The Components settings page has an Addresses section listing every enabled component with its own subdomain (Element, Cinny, Element Call, Grafana, …). Each shows its default; leave it empty to keep it, or type any hostname pointed at the server. Review's DNS check follows what you set. Importing a server fills these from its vars.yml.
Fixed
- "Doesn't resolve" on Review for records that do. On servers imported before interzone handled MAS sign-up, those settings sat in the extra vars and were also written by interzone, so vars.yml held them twice. The DNS check couldn't read the file and checked names like
element.~. Hand-written extra vars now win and are written once, which is also what Ansible did with the duplicate.

2026-10-27 02:17:07 +03:30 | 123 commits to main since this releaseReview fix and a cleanup
Fixed
- Review's
xon imported servers. Toggling the changed-only view on the Review screen now works for servers that were imported rather than deployed by interzone. - Shorter deploy errors. The Deploy screen trims Ansible's long "Full error:" tail, the same way the failure summary already did.
Changed
- Internal cleanup: dead code removed and repeated code folded together. Nothing else should look or behave differently.

2026-10-27 01:36:48 +03:30 | 129 commits to main since this releaseConduit, Continuwuity and Tuwunel federate on 443
Changed
- Federation on 443. Conduit, Continuwuity and Tuwunel now take federation on the normal HTTPS port, and port 8448 stays closed. Existing servers switch over on their next update. Other servers learn the new port from
.well-known, so federation may hiccup briefly while their caches expire. The server check only asks for 8448 on Synapse and Dendrite.
New
- Tuwunel's own login page. Tuwunel now serves its built-in OAuth login and sign-up page, which apps like Element X use. Password login keeps working, and sign-up there follows the same open/close registration and token. It needs HTTPS. Continuwuity already has its own OAuth login on by default. Conduit has none.

2026-10-27 01:02:48 +03:30 | 130 commits to main since this releaseFix installing on this computer
Fixed
- Installing on the computer interzone runs on stopped at the playbook with "Failed to import the required Python library (requests)". Ansible used interzone's own Python, but the playbook installs the Docker SDK for the system's. Local installs now use
/usr/bin/python3. Installs over SSH weren't affected.

2026-10-27 00:55:53 +03:30 | 131 commits to main since this releaseSign-up with a token, no email needed
New
- Sign-up through MAS with a token. On Synapse with MAS, people can make their own account with a sign-up token. No email address is needed. The Public community preset turns this on. Elsewhere, use Manage › Open registration. interzone makes the token and shows it when the install finishes. Close registration turns it off again.
- Manage › Sign-up tokens (
t). See every registration token: how many accounts it has made, when it was last used and when it runs out. Make new tokens limited to some uses or days, and revoke or restore them. - Sable is in every preset. The Components step marks it as suggested.
Changed
- Exim relay (outgoing email) starts off in new setups and presets. Tick it on the Components step if you want the server to send email.

2026-10-27 00:15:52 +03:30 | 134 commits to main since this releaseFewer components, and backups only when you ask
Removed
- Postgres backup (postgres-backup-local). It isn't needed by anything else, and interzone's own Scheduled backups cover the same ground.
- mautrix-wsproxy (SMS/iMessage), which also ran syncproxy. Only the Android SMS and iMessage bridges use it, and interzone doesn't offer those.
There are 79 components now. A saved setup that had either one on still loads, and the setting is ignored. On a server that ran them, the next install or update switches them off. The playbook keeps old Postgres backup dumps and tells you where they are.
Changed
- No preset turns on scheduled backups. They stay off until you turn them on in Manage › Scheduled backups. Friends & family no longer includes database dumps.

2026-10-27 00:04:08 +03:30 | 136 commits to main since this releaseEvery image checked, and Matrix.to removed
Changed
- Mirrors › Images checks every container image the playbook can deploy, not only the ones your setup uses. They're listed in two groups: Needed by your domain and Not used by your setup, with missing images first in each. The tile and the sidebar count the needed ones; if any unused image is missing, the tile says so. The check before an install still looks only at the needed ones.
- The Matrix.to component is gone (81 components now). A saved setup that had it turned on still loads, and the setting is ignored. On a server that ran it, the next install or update turns it off.
- The README's screenshots are centred thumbnails; click one to see it full size.

2026-10-26 05:28:30 +03:30 | 141 commits to main since this releaseA quicker Users screen, a live Dashboard and the menu from the keyboard
New
- The menu works from the keyboard. ctrl+b moves the keys to the sidebar (or opens the tiles in the compact layout). Use ↑↓ to move, ←→ to fold a section or move along a row of tiles, enter to open and esc to go back. The layout, theme and fold links can be picked the same way.
- The Dashboard is live. It refreshes itself every 5 seconds while it's open and checks certificates every 5 minutes (or when you press
r). After an error it tries again every 30 seconds.
Faster
- Changes on Manage › Users (deactivate, sign out, admin, new account) show on the list straight away, and the list keeps working while it reloads in the background.
- User details load in parallel: on a server with 60 people, loading went from about 4 s to under 1 s. On MAS servers the admin list loads at the same time.
Fixed
- A screen you left while it was refreshing no longer waits for that answer forever.
- The key bar drops its least useful hints instead of being cut off on narrow windows.
- Fine-tune's counts line up again.
- Bridge groups on Users show their proper names (WhatsApp, not whatsapp).
Other
- interzone is MIT licensed. The playbook it drives stays AGPL-3.0.
- The README has a Users screenshot, and every screenshot was retaken.
