Web apps to chat in, each on its own address. Any Matrix app works with your server, these included or not (Element X and FluffyChat on phones, for instance); installing one here just gives your people a web version on your own domain, which matters when the app's own site is blocked.
How to add any of these: Components.
Settings: none, except where each one lives under Addresses. The
defaults are <name>.example.org; type another hostname to change it.
DNS: an A record for each one's address (element, cinny…), pointing
at the server. Review's z lists them.
After deploy: open its address, choose Sign in, and give your server
name example.org if it asks. With MAS, the sign-in itself happens on a page
of your server, and the app returns once you're in.
| Client | Address | What it's like |
|---|---|---|
| Element Web | element.example.org |
The most complete one: spaces, threads, calls, widgets, every setting. Ticked by default. Doc |
| Cinny | cinny.example.org |
Simple and tidy, looks like Discord. Light on a slow connection. Doc |
| Sable | sable.example.org |
A clean, modern interface; suggested next to Element. Doc |
| Hydrogen | hydrogen.example.org |
Very light, works in old and phone browsers. Fewer features. Doc |
| SchildiChat Web | schildichat.example.org |
Element with extras: a unified chat list, message bubbles. Doc |
| FluffyChat Web | fluffychat.example.org |
Friendly and colourful, like a phone messenger. Doc |
| Commet | commet.example.org |
Feature-rich, with a Discord-like layout. Doc |
Two or three is plenty: everyone's messages and rooms live on the server, so people can switch between them freely.
